5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Soapbox: Philadelphia's Independent Publishing Center
We are pleased to partner with The Soapbox: Philadelphia’s Independent Publishing Center in hosting another Edible Book Festival! This year’s event will include an edible book contest, tasting and prizes, a print-your-own quesadilla activity, and the release of the first ever Eat Your Words zine featuring food-themed writing and images, as well as recipes.
The Soapbox and the Philadelphia Center for the Book invite your entries in two areas: the food-themed Eat Your Words Compilation Zine and to our Edible Books Contest and Tasting.
Part 1: Eat Your Words Zine
Submit something delicious for the very first Eat Your Words zine. All participants will receive a copy of the Zine at the April 11 event. All variety of work is welcome! We are looking for food anecdotes, food-themed artwork, your favorite recipe, a foodie think piece, visual food puns, anything and everything to the tune of Eat Your Words!
Entries should be formatted to a half-letter size page, portrait orientation (5.5″ high by 8.5″ tall). Pages will be reproduced in black & white. Entries can be submitted as pdf, jpg, or Word doc files and emailed to phillysoapbox@gmail.com. All entries must be received by March 27 to be included in the zine.
Part 2: Edible Books Contest
We’re joining foodies and book-lovers around the globe in this year’s annual Edible Book Festival. Anyone is invited to bring their own edible interpretation of their favorite book to get a copy of the Eat Your Words zine and to compete for prizes and, of course, bragging rights. The only rule is that all entries must be bookish through the integration of text, literary inspiration, or, quite simply, the form. And please note: all books will be eaten by the end of the evening, so while tastiness is not required, it is highly recommended.
You can visit books2eat or view images from previous Edible Book Fests hosted by the Philadelphia Center for the Book to jump start your brainstorming. Plan to bring an entry? Please let us know to expect your entry.
This event is FREE and participation is open to members and non-members alike.
