Variations of the Artist Book: Philadelphia Center for the Book Member Exhibition

Philadelphia Center for the Book invites member artists to participate in Variations of the Artist Book: Philadelphia Center for the Book Member Exhibition, an exhibition in City Hall, Philadelphia.
This will be a major exhibition experienced by a wide range of viewers. Members are invited to submit works that can be thought of as artist books. The exhibition will focus on variations on the idea of an artist book; each of the five exhibition cases will center on a particular feature. Some possibilities are sculptural books/unusual structures, bindings, text as dominate, wordless books, play of text and image, materials, print and image making processes.
Applicants are encouraged to submit up to four works. When submitting, please keep in mind the size of the exhibition cases, which are 72″ H x 94″ W x 30″ D.
Work in the exhibition will not be for sale, but artists can be contacted outside the exhibition by interested buyers.
While submissions are open only to members of Philadelphia Center for the Book, anyone may become a member via our website before submission. There is no fee to submit.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Submissions must include the following and should be emailed to exhibitions@philadelphiacenterforthebook.org
– Completed application form
– Images of submitted piece, up to 4 entries per member
Images must be labeled: last name_brief title_image number (e.g., Jones_Shutters_1)
– Short bio in a Word document
Submission applications that aren’t complete or in the required form will not be accepted for consideration.
IMPORTANT DATES
Submissions due: August 2, 2019
Selection notification via email: August 16, 2019
Work due (delivered or mailed) to the Art Department, Free Library of Philadelphia (Parkway, 1901 Vine St.): by August 26/27, 2019
Dates of loan: August 26 – December 4, 2019
Reception: TBA (information will be sent via email)
Exhibition dates: September 30-November 29, 2019
