Using non-toxic water-based inks, you’ll learn monoprinting without a press. Monoprints are the painterly approach to printmaking that combines the spontaneity of painting and drawing with the process of printmaking. You’ll learn to add textures to drawings and to paint directly on the printing plate using Akua Liquid Pigment inks. You’ll learn to mix colors and to use inks and additives to build up layers of transparent and opaque color.

You’ll print on Japanese ink paper, using Plexiglas sheets and Gelli Plates as printing plates. You’ll learn to handle printmaking paper, to mix colors, to curate and sign finished prints. We will look at finished work together to learn from each other. Students will learn to work in a community setting of the print shop with shared materials and equipment, and to clean their work areas and shared tools.
