Edible Book Festival 2019

March 30, 2019
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Soapbox Community Print Shop and Zine Library

Philadelphia Center for the Book is pleased to partner once again with the Soapbox Community Print Shop and Zine Library to host the Edible Book Festival, an event celebrated by bibliophiles and gastronomes alike. The International Edible Book Festival is held worldwide, around the beginning of April, partially to celebrate the birthday of French Gastronome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), and partially to celebrate the fun of eating your own words!

An edible book can be simply defined as an edible object that somehow relates to books. It may integrate text, illustrate literary titles or content, or represent book form. You can read more about edible books at the official festival website, www.books2eat.com.

Join us for refreshments, bookmaking activities, and of course, edible books! Prizes will be awarded to the most delicious book, the best book structure, the punniest book, and the audience favorite! All books will be eaten by the attendees at the end of the day. You do not need to make a book to attend, but are encouraged to flex your literary and culinary muscles to celebrate our two favorite things: Eating and Reading!
