Call for Proposals

Philadelphia Center for the Book (PCB) and the Art Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia (FLP) are looking for artists to give book or paper workshops. These workshops will be held at the Free Library of Philadelphia Central Branch on the Parkway. Please note the information below to inform your proposal:

  • Workshops are planned for Saturday mornings from 10 – 12 and are capped at 15 participants. The schedule will be determined by the final workshop selection.
  • The workshops are free and open to the public and require registration. No previous experience should be necessary. If your workshop assumes some bookbinding or sewing experience, please mention that.
  • Workshops should include a supply list that is easily sourced for beginners, preferably from materials that can be found at home or are inexpensive.
  • Instructors are compensated $55 per hour for teaching the workshop; you will be compensated for an hour to prep and breakdown.
  • Workshops are promoted on the PCB and FLP websites, newsletters, and registration is managed through Eventbrite. Workshops typically fill within hours of opening registration.

– Workshop Title
– Workshop Description
– Supply list
– Short Artist Bio including link to website if you have one
– Two images of what will be made in the workshop*
– Two preferred months for teaching
*Photos should run in a horizontal or landscape orientation, preferably with a 2:1 ratio (twice as wide as tall). 2160 x 1080 px is a recommended dimension. Pictures can be file types JPEG, BMP, PNG, or GIF and between 500KB and 2MB.
